Alcohol problems can often go unrecognised in older people according to GP, Dr Juliet Bressan, who specialises in substance misuse with the HSE Addiction Service in north Dublin.
She highlights that a lack of training among healthcare professionals and the lack of appropriate screening tools contribute to this barrier to identification of alcohol problems. She called for more awareness and training for health care professionals on this topic.
